Before and After Painting: Four Artists Challenge Painting at La Giarina, Verona

Curated by Valerio Dehò, the exhibition 'Before and After Painting' at Galleria La Giarina in Verona features works by Arnold Mario Dall’O, Antonio Riello, Silvano Tessarollo, and Francesco Totaro. Though the show's title references painting as a central axis for contemporary visual arts, the exhibited pieces are not directly painterly. Instead, they employ drawing, sculpture, objects, and what Dehò calls 'medial paintings'—a term for Totaro's works. The artists push the boundaries of different languages, testing art's resilience. Riello's pen drawings verge on painting, Dall’O accumulates contemporary icons, Tessarollo depicts an unsettling yet identifiable nature, and Totaro recontextualizes images from the internet to disorienting effect.
