Beautiful Things: A Symphonic Documentary on Consumerism

other · 2026-05-04

Giorgio Ferrero and Federico Biasin co-directed 'Beautiful Things', a symphonic documentary exploring consumerism through four chapters titled Petrolio, Cargo, Metro, and Cenere. Each chapter follows a protagonist witnessing a stage in the life cycle of everyday goods. Ferrero, a composer and photographer, and Biasin, a cinematographer and producer, use music as the narrative key, building tension toward a longing for silence. The film originated as a Biennale College Cinema 2016 project and premiered at the 74th Venice International Film Festival, winning the ARCA Cinema Giovani award for best Italian film. It also won best debut at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen and screened at over 70 festivals worldwide. Distributed by Wanted Cinema, it hits theaters on April 1, 2019. Ferrero dedicates the film to those who cannot live without collecting semi-useless objects, describing it as an escape from an inescapable lifestyle.
