Beatriz Milhazes' Rare Prints on View at Pinacoteca de São Paulo

The Pinacoteca de São Paulo presents 'Beatriz Milhazes: gravuras do acervo da Pinacoteca de São Paulo' on the second floor of Pina Estação, featuring 27 works from 1996 to 2019. The exhibition, curated by Renato Menezes, highlights Milhazes' collaboration with Jean-Paul Russell at Durham Press, showcasing large-scale serigraphs that challenge traditional printmaking through transparency and depth. The prints, some nearly two meters wide, incorporate motifs like florals, arabesques, and mandalas, reflecting Brazilian visual culture. The museum holds the complete set thanks to donations in 2009 and 2024. Milhazes, who participated in the landmark 'Como vai você geração 80?' and has shown at the Venice Biennale and São Paulo Biennial, demonstrates the interdependence of painting and printmaking in her practice.
