Beatrice Trussardi Launches New Contemporary Art Foundation

institutional · 2026-04-27

Beatrice Trussardi, president of Fondazione Nicola Trussardi since 1999, has established the Fondazione Beatrice Trussardi as an autonomous offshoot to expand her cultural work internationally. The new foundation retains the nomadic DNA of its predecessor, which abandoned its permanent Milan venue in 2003 under artistic director Massimiliano Gioni to stage exhibitions in symbolic or forgotten sites across the city. Gioni will continue as artistic director for both foundations, while writer Giuliano da Empoli—president of think tank Volta, strategic committee chair of Civita, former Florence culture assessor, and former president of Gabinetto Vieusseux—will coordinate research programs that ground artistic interventions in physical, social, and cultural contexts. The foundation launches July 11, 2021, with a project by Polish artist Pawel Althamer in Val Fex, Engadin, Switzerland. Althamer (born Warsaw, 1967) will present an installation in a mountain hut at 2,000 meters, accessible only on foot or by carriage, running until August 29. The work combines sacred art memories with vernacular influences from diverse cultures, addressing transformations of physical and social environments and the shifting boundaries between urban and rural, local and global. Fondazione Nicola Trussardi continues its national programming with a next project planned for 2022.
