Beatrice Sancinelli's Immersive 'Rumore dell'umore' at Bergamo's Monastero del Carmine

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Beatrice Sancinelli's first solo exhibition, 'Rumore dell'umore', opened in Bergamo, Italy, as part of the city's tenure as Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2023. The show runs until May 28, 2023, at the Monastero del Carmine in Bergamo Alta. Visitors must wear a Woojer Vest3 gaming vest and large headphones to experience the artist's emotional vision through vibration and sound. Curated by Maria Vittoria Baravelli, the exhibition is described as a 'laica Via Crucis' (secular Stations of the Cross) inside a windowless room. Nine short videos play on separate screens, exploring themes of boredom, absence, euphoria, and carefreeness. Sancinelli, born in 1995 in Bergamo, trained as a filmmaker and directed the short 'Point of View' for the 2019 Design Week. The videos feature dancer Emanuele Algeri, her friend and muse, whose face, nude body, and breathing appear throughout. The Monastero del Carmine, recently restored with Art Bonus funding and public-private cooperation, houses the Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo (TTB) and the new Teatro Renzo Vescovi, making it a fitting venue for this interdisciplinary work.
