Beatrice Meoni's 'Fuoriscena' at z2o Sara Zanin Explores Liminal Spaces

Beatrice Meoni's solo exhibition 'Fuoriscena' at z2o Sara Zanin in Rome investigates the blurred boundaries between presence and absence, nature and domestic space. Curated by Marina Dacci, the show features works that transform the artist's everyday environments—her home, studio, garden, and treehouse—into epistemic devices questioning vision. The treehouse, a recurring motif, serves as a threshold disarticulating conventional coordinates of sight. Paintings like 'Tra gli alberi' and the 'Sull'albero' series employ subtractive and amplificatory processes, inducing a labile perception that invites viewer interpretation. Meoni's palette favors attenuated, evocative tones, with diluted marks creating suspended images that are vivid yet on the verge of dissolution. Objects such as mirrors, hats, locks, and boots appear poised to vanish behind a curtain, reflecting her background as a theater apprentice and set designer. The exhibition follows a circular path, ending with 'Mattutino domestico' as a counterpart to the first painting, forming a ring composition. The work evokes Merleau-Ponty's reflections on body and world, with temporality contracting and expanding, nature becoming a zone of sensory indeterminacy.
