Beatrice Celli's 'Le jardin des Allégories' at Villa Arson, Nice

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Beatrice Celli, an Italian artist born in 1992 in L'Aquila, has created an allegorical garden named 'Le jardin des Allégories' at the Passage des Fougères within Villa Arson's national contemporary art center in Nice, which will be on display until December 30, 2021. Her work draws on local traditions and ancestral folklore, featuring ceramic pieces such as 'Smaragos', a fountain inspired by baroque heraldry, and 'Sive mas sive foemina', illustrating a wild man. The exhibition also includes a carved wooden owl, ceramic bells, and a Lithuanian installation related to a money enchantment ritual. The concluding room showcases walls adorned with ferns, cornucopias, and audio of Lithuanian healing chants, accompanied by scents of paprika, parsley, and mint that evoke the essence of damp forests. Celli's artistic style is both grotesque and dynamic.
