BDR bureau's Open Architecture Wins Awards and Recognition

The Enrico Fermi school in Turin, designed by BDR bureau, has won the Premio T Young Claudio De Albertis promoted by Triennale and MAXXI, and has reached the final phase of the EUMiesAward. Founded in 2016 by Alberto Bottero (born 1984) and Simona Della Rocca (born 1985), the studio focuses on 'open architecture'—creating generous, adaptable spaces that transform limitations into opportunities. The Fermi school, a model for sustainable heritage recovery, features a metal structure added to an existing complex, multiplying usable spaces with continuous terraces. The duo previously won the YAP MAXXI in 2013 with their installation 'He' at the MAXXI museum in Rome. BDR bureau is now working on a school in Varese and an innovative campus in Belgium designed with Carton 123 architecten and landscape architect Joost Emmerik, including art spaces, shared facilities, and a primary school for special needs. Other projects include the renovation of a farmhouse in Monferrato, a gym, and collective residences. The studio aims to grow while maintaining a family-like dimension. The EUMiesAward winner will be announced at the end of April, where BDR will compete with Lacol for the emerging architect title in Europe.
