BBC Two's Secrets of the Museum Returns for Second Season at V&A

digital · 2026-04-27

The second season of the documentary series "Secrets of the Museum" premiered on BBC Two on July 20, 2021. Produced by Blast! Films, the six-episode series offers behind-the-scenes access to London's Victoria & Albert Museum, founded in South Kensington in 1852. Episodes cover the mystery behind a 20th-century Thai Buddhist painting, a possible thumbprint left by Michelangelo on a wax model, and preparations for the installation "All Will Be Well" featuring rainbow drawings by children during the Covid-19 pandemic. The series also explores the interactive Mad Hatter's Tea Party installation from the Alice: Curiouser & Curiouser exhibition, designed by theatre designer Tom Piper. A fashion segment highlights the acquisition of a Molly Goddard dress worn by Beyoncé in "Black is King" and a JW Anderson crochet cardigan worn by Harry Styles, which sparked a viral DIY trend on TikTok initiated by Los Angeles user Liv Huffman. The season also features Little Tommy Tittlemouse, a 5-inch teddy bear over 111 years old, the oldest in the V&A collection. All episodes are available on BBC iPlayer, and the first season plus three episodes of the second season are accessible on YouTube for viewers outside the UK.
