Bauhausfrauen Documentary Rewrites History of Bauhaus Women

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Elisabeth Otto, an art historian and author of "Haunted Bauhaus," argues that the narrative of Bauhaus is incomplete without acknowledging women's contributions. The documentary "Bauhausfrauen," directed by Susanne Radelhof, showcases five trailblazing women: Alma Buscher, Marianne Brandt, Gunta Stölzl, Friedl Dicker, and Lucia Moholy. Released to commemorate the centennial of the German institution, it sheds light on their fight for acknowledgment in a male-dominated environment led by founder Walter Gropius. The film was presented at Lo schermo dell'arte 2021, directed by Silvia Lucchesi, and can be streamed on demand until November 21 through Più Compagnia and MYMOVIES. Additionally, the festival included the VISIO European Programme and the exhibition "Thinking Beyond," featuring works by ten artists under 35, running until December 12.
