Bauhaus Week Berlin 2019: Yoga, Documentaries, and a Citywide Exhibition

Berlin's municipal cultural agency Kulturprojekte, in collaboration with the Kunst Biblioteke, Werkbund Arkiv, and Staats Biblioteke, is organizing Bauhaus Week to explain the movement beyond its architectural and design implications. The program, still being finalized, includes a diffused exhibition titled 'Bauhaus in 20 pictures' along Kantstrasse between Savignyplatz and Potsdamerstrasse, featuring large image collages in 20 selected shop windows of furniture and design stores. Each morning at 9 AM, yoga sessions led by Sarah Elsing will take place on the roof of the Bauhaus building in Dessau and at other iconic sites like the Mies van der Rohe Haus, followed by short lectures on architecture as a discipline aimed at creating harmony between individuals and their inhabited spaces. At 5 PM, documentaries made by Bauhaus members or later works on the subject will be screened at these same buildings. The pedestrian area of Ernst Reuter Platz will host readings and performances, with events also at the Kunst Biblioteke, Werkbund Arkiv, Staats Biblioteke, and the Temporary Bauhaus (a provisional space while the Bauhaus Archiv undergoes renovation). A new television series on the Bauhaus, produced by ZDF, will premiere at Podewill, the headquarters of Kulturprojekte. All events are free and open to the public, intended to bring the movement's culture back to the people, emphasizing architecture as a discipline essential for societal progress.
