Bauhaus Imaginista: A Century of Radical Art in Berlin

At the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the exhibition 'Bauhaus Imaginista' explores the global legacy of the Bauhaus movement, a century after its founding in 1919. The show centers on immaterial, ephemeral, and performative art, inspired by Kurt Schwerdtfeger's optical installations from a 1922 Weimar party. It traces how Bauhaus ideas spread worldwide after the group's dissolution in 1933, influencing art and sociopolitical movements in the US, India, Japan, Russia, and Latin America. The exhibition features forgotten figures like architect and political activist René Mensch, and connects diverse works—from Tagore's poems to Pieter Oud's architecture and the Casablanca School's Moroccan cultural revival. It highlights the dynamism of 'global art,' pairing Schwerdtfeger's ephemeral installations with Warhol's Pop Art and Klee's nature with Tagore's pantheism.
