Battiato-Pio exhibition opens in Castelfranco Veneto
A new exhibition in Castelfranco Veneto celebrates the collaboration between composer Giusto Pio and Franco Battiato, who co-wrote iconic Italian pop songs like 'Centro di gravità permanente' and 'Per Elisa'. Curated by Danila Dal Pos and organized by Pio's children Stefano and Giulietta, the show runs until August 30 at the Teatro Accademico foyer. It chronologically traces their partnership from 1976 to the late 1990s, including Pio's later non-commercial works. Stefano Pio notes that Battiato and Pio co-authored over 140 titles, a body of work he claims surpasses the Battisti-Mogol duo. The exhibition includes objects, scores, and materials from two decades of collaboration. Accompanying concerts explore two distinct eras: their 1970s experimental phase and later 'philosophical pop'. Stefano Pio criticizes digital platforms for omitting his father's name from songs, calling it a 'damnatio memoriae'.
