Battersea Power Station Reopens as Mixed-Use Hub After 40 Years
London's iconic Battersea Power Station reopened on October 14, 2022, after nearly four decades of inactivity. The Grade II listed building, acquired in 2012 for £400 million by a Malaysian consortium, has been transformed into a commercial and residential complex. The restoration and redevelopment, led by WilkinsonEyre, preserves the Art Deco and brutalist architectural features while adding contemporary elements. The site includes 254 apartments (occupied since May 2021), a 46,000 sqm Apple campus, London's first art'otel with 60 rooms, a cinema, wellness spaces, and the Lift 109 glass elevator. The wider regeneration project, costing £9 billion, also involves Gehry Partners, BIG, and Foster + Partners. The opening was celebrated with the Festival of Power (October 14-16 and 22-23), featuring live performances and installations. An ice skating rink will open on November 11. The Circus West Village, completed in 2017 by SimpsonHaugh, already houses 1,800 residents.
