Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize Launches First Edition for Emerging Bronze Artists
The Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan, founded in 1913, has launched the first international edition of the Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize, aimed at emerging talents in bronze sculpture. The prize focuses on the lost-wax casting technique, reviving ancient craftsmanship in contemporary art. Five young artists—Julien Creuzet, Nicolas Deshayes, Alicia Frankovich, Rodrigo Hernandez, and Nicolas Party—have been shortlisted by a committee including Giovanni Carmine, Marie Cozette, Mihnea Mircan, Chris Sharp, and Roberta Tenconi. Each artist will propose a work to be judged by a jury comprising Camilla Bonzanigo (Fonderia Artistica Battaglia), Martin Clark (Bergen Kunsthall), Alberto Salvadori (Museo Marino Marini), and Moritz Wesseler (Kölnischer Kunstverein). The winner receives a scholarship and a one-month residency at the foundry starting June 2016, with technical support to produce their work. All projects will be exhibited in a group show in September 2016.
