Batsheva Dance Company performs at Festival Oriente Occidente in Rovereto

The Batsheva Dance Company, funded by the Israeli government, performed at the Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto as part of the Festival Oriente Occidente. Choreographer Ohad Naharin presented the work "Three," which combines the pieces Bellus, Humus, and Secus. Naharin explained that titles and names are meaningless, referencing Gaga—a movement language derived from a Dadaist babble, not a method. Gaga is described as a primordial word representing a new beginning after illness, as explored in the upcoming film "Mr. Gaga." Naharin stated, "Dancing means healing starting from the skin; with it we feel space, the flow of information, communication." The performance featured elements such as shaking, flashing, and floating, with dancers displaying raw physicality. A male solo set to Bach's Goldberg Variations (performed by Glenn Gould) was followed by a group response, while Brian Eno's "Neroli" was omitted as Eno, a BDS activist, denied permission. The audience applauded for fifteen minutes. The festival faced security presence due to the company's government ties, but the dance itself was apolitical.
