Batman's 80th Anniversary Celebrated with Milan Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Batman is receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as announced by selection committee president Vin Di Bona, who noted the unique choices this year. For the character's 80th anniversary, DC is organizing global celebrations. In Italy, the exhibition "Batman: 80 Years of Technology" runs until September 10 at the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milan. The show features rare original American comic books from the 1940s to today, focusing on Bat-Technology, and includes 13 original works by artists Milo Manara, Gabriele dell'Otto, Simone Bianchi, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Bill Sienkiewicz. An exclusive interview by TG1 journalist Vincenzo Mollica with Batman creator Bob Kane is also presented. The exhibition is included in the museum ticket (€10 full, €7.50 reduced). Additionally, Batman was originally conceived by Bob Kane with a red costume, mask, and rigid bat wings inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's ornithopter designs, and was blonde without a hood. Contrary to popular belief, Batman's film debut was not in 1966 with Adam West, but in 1964 when pop artist Andy Warhol directed the film "Batman/Dracula," shown only at some of Warhol's exhibitions and believed lost until 2006 when part of it appeared in the documentary "Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlantis."
