Basquiat's Sugar Ray Robinson to Lead Christie's 21st Century Evening Sale

Christie's will auction Jean-Michel Basquiat's monumental 1982 painting 'Sugar Ray Robinson' as the top lot of its 21st Century Evening Sale on November 17, 2022, in New York. The work, absent from the market since 2007, carries an estimate of around $35 million. It will be on public view at Rockefeller Center from October 29 to November 17, 2022. The painting pays homage to legendary boxer Sugar Ray Robinson, who won five world championships and had 91 consecutive victories. The sale follows the success of Basquiat's 'Untitled (Devil)' (1982) from the Maezawa Collection, which sold for $85 million at Phillips earlier in 2022.
