cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

On December 5, 2025, the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan will unveil Ambrosius. Il Tesoro della Basilica, a new museum experience. Established by Bishop Ambrose between 379 and 386, the basilica showcases a Romanesque style that was restructured in the 11th and 12th centuries. The initiative, spearheaded by Abbot Mons. Carlo Faccendini and supported by the Diocese, Soprintendenza, and Fondazione Cariplo, aims to enrich the basilica's legacy. Notable features include the Aula Ambrosii, which houses the reconstructed bed of Saint Ambrose, the golden altar of Vuolvino, the Ottonian ciborium, and the apse mosaic from the 11th century. Architect Andrea Perin designed the itinerary. The museum will be free from December 9 to 24, 2025, and will open permanently on December 26.
