Basel Art Week 2018: Nine Fairs to Visit
Art Basel 2018 opens with nearly 300 galleries. Italian participation in the main section includes Alfonso Artiaco (Naples), Galleria Continua (San Gimignano), Massimo De Carlo (Milan), and others. New Italian entries in the Feature section are Monica De Cardenas (Milan, Zuoz, Lugano), Fonti (Naples), Lorcan O’Neill (Rome), P420 (Bologna), and Emanuel Layr (Vienna, Rome). Liste, the longest-running satellite fair, returns to Warteck with 80 galleries from 30 countries, including Italian participants Frutta Gallery (Rome/Glasgow), Laveronica (Modica), Francesca Minini (Milan), and Monitor (Rome). Volta, founded in 2005 by Amanda Coulson, moves to the COOP distribution center near Novartis campus, with 10 Italian galleries out of 75. Scope changes location near Messeplatz, with Italian newcomers M77, One Arts Club (Milan), and Rizomi (Parma). Frame debuts at Basel Art Center with 12 galleries and a foundation, no Italian presence. Paper Positions, from Berlin and Munich, opens at Ackermannshof with 26 mostly German galleries. Photo Basel, fourth edition at Volkshaus, features Italian gallery Mimmo Scognamiglio (Milan). I Never Read, a fair for books and prints, expands globally with a project room at Manifesta in Palermo curated by Valentina Bruschi and Ignazio Mortellaro. Design Miami/Basel returns to Messeplatz.
