BASE Milano unveils 2018 program spanning design, digital, and culture

institutional · 2026-05-05

Twenty months after opening, BASE Milano has expanded to 12,000 square meters in the former Ansaldo industrial complex. The nonprofit cultural hub, managed by a private social enterprise under a municipal concession, operates as a self-funded learning machine. Its 2018 calendar features coproductions with dozens of Italian and international organizations. Highlights include participation in "999. A Collection of Questions on Contemporary Living" at Triennale Milano (until April 2), curated by Stefano Mirti, with artists in residence at casaBASE. From March 15–18, BASE hosts the Milano Digital Week. From March 23–25, Giorgio Vasta curates BookPride, the third edition of the independent publishing fair. During FuoriSalone, BASE will unveil a neighborhood concierge, a shared workshop, a pergola courtyard, and a rooftop terrace. RaumPlan curates "Trouble Making" on participatory urban design. In May, "Archi*invaders" with La Galerie d'Architecture de Paris explores architectural representation. Artlab, the 18th conference on cultural innovation by Fondazione Fitzcarraldo, runs May 24–27. From June 4–10, Milano Photo Week takes place. In October, "Milano 1968. Words, Voices, and Faces of Protest" features photographs by Uliano Lucas. The year closes with BookCity (November 16–18), The Art Chapter, Photo Vogue Festival by Vogue Italia, and Linecheck Music Meeting. Partners benefit from ArtBonus tax incentives.
