institutional · 2026-05-05

BASE, the cultural and innovation hub in Milan's former Ansaldo industrial complex, celebrated its first anniversary on March 30, 2017, with 300,000 visitors and 400 events. The project, led by Arci Milano, Avanzi, esterni, h+, and Make a Cube3 with support from the Municipality of Milan and Fondazione Cariplo, aims to foster cultural contamination across art, creativity, business, technology, and welfare. Current spaces include a coworking area, bar-restaurant, lounge, residence casaBASE, exhibition spaces, auditorium, and a Kunsthalle-style zone. From 2018, an additional 6,000 square meters will double the venue, adding workspaces, ateliers, music labs, and workshops. BASE is part of the European Creative Hubs Network promoted by the British Council. Located in the Tortona district, it features a carpentry workshop by Leftover Design. The bar-restaurant 'un posto a BASE' offers a unique dining experience with food served on wooden sticks, designed by Francesco Bombardi. Events included Italica, Pianocity Milano, Bookcity, Milano Film Festival, Milano PhotoWeek, and Design Nomade during Fuorisalone. Future plans include a community library and continued expansion via the Art Bonus program.
