Bartolomeo Pietromarchi appointed new director of Maxxi Arte

Bartolomeo Pietromarchi has been named the new Director of the Arte Department at the Maxxi museum in Rome. The appointment follows a public call launched on February 22, which attracted over 30 candidates. President Giovanna Melandri, with the help of experts Gianfranco Maraniello, Pierpaolo Forte, and Hou Hanru, shortlisted three finalists: Ilaria Bonacossa, Alberto Salvadori, and Pietromarchi. After interviews with Melandri and Hanru, Pietromarchi was proposed to the Board of Directors. He will assume the role in early May, with a term tied to the presidency but renewable independently. Pietromarchi, former director of the Macro in Rome and curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale, stated his first priority is strengthening the team and enhancing the permanent collection, which he sees as a key asset for the museum. He emphasized alignment with artistic director Hou Hanru, with whom he recently co-curated a Nannucci exhibition and is currently working on an Iran-themed show.
