Barriers and Enablers of Online Instruction in Hospitality Education in the Philippines
An exploratory investigation published on arXiv (2604.25047) examined the challenges and facilitators of online teaching in hospitality education within the Philippines. Researchers conducted interviews with hospitality educators from both public and private higher education institutions, using a sequential exploratory design. Thematic analysis identified four primary themes: technological obstacles, pedagogical difficulties, institutional and personal support, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI). These themes were then converted into survey constructs and assessed for reliability. The most pressing issues identified were pedagogical challenges, particularly in teaching practical subjects and maintaining student engagement. Technological issues like unreliable internet and limited devices were rated moderately, while support from institutions and individuals received varied feedback. Educators recognized the potential of AI integration but stressed the importance of training.
