Barriera di Milano launches 'Coming Together' sound sessions with ALMARE

Barriera, a non-profit association founded in 2007 by a group of collectors in Turin, is launching 'Coming Together – Sessione d’ascolto n°1' on May 24, 2018, the first in a series of listening sessions exploring sound perception and spatiality. The event is organized by ALMARE, an association founded in 2017 by Amos Cappuccio, Luca Morino, and Gabriele Rendina Cattani, which aims to synergize contemporary art production across visual arts, performance, and theoretical research. ALMARE collaborates with institutions like Cité International Des Arts in Paris. The session, coordinated by Sergey Kantsedal (who has managed Barriera since 2016 alongside Giulia De Giorgi, Clara Madaro, and Maria Elena Marchetti), will feature researcher and Artribune contributor Vincenzo Santarcangelo and curator Giulia Mengozzi. The space will be divided into three distinct sonic environments, each with a specific listening modality, playback support, and speaker arrangement. Santarcangelo describes the pieces as 'more or less historicized' objects exhibited in a 'Musée Imaginaire des Œuvres Musicales' (citing Lydia Goehr), meant to be experienced and taken away by visitors. The sessions are site-specific, blending theoretical and performative elements of acousmatic music. Future sessions are planned but not yet scheduled, with the first serving as a test to gauge public response.
