Barreca and Ciampolini reappointed directors of Carrara's mudaC and CARMI museums
Laura Barreca and Marco Ciampolini have been reappointed as scientific directors of Carrara's two regional museums, mudaC (Museo delle arti Carrara) and CARMI (Museo Carrara e Michelangelo), for a three-year term. The public selection was announced by the Municipality of Carrara. Both are professors at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara. Barreca, a critic and curator from Sicily, will continue her work at mudaC focusing on renewal, participatory initiatives, and strengthening regional, national, and international networks. She previously directed the Museo Civico di Castelbuono from 2014. Ciampolini, a professor of Modern Art History, emphasized at CARMI the shift from museums as mere containers to institutions combining conservation with in-depth study, supported by new technologies. CARMI's activities center on Michelangelo's myth and his relationship with Carrara and marble. The reappointment ensures continuity, as both had won the same roles in May 2019.
