Barozzi/Veiga's Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts opens in Lausanne

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

The Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts (MCBA) in Lausanne, crafted by Barozzi/Veiga, welcomed its first visitors on October 5, 2019. This museum is a key component of the Platform 10 masterplan, awarded to Barozzi/Veiga in 2011, which also encompasses the MUDAC and Musée de l'Elysée, all slated for completion by 2021. Situated on a former industrial site near the central railway station, the MCBA covers over 20,000 square meters. Commissioned by the Canton of Vaud, it includes exhibition areas for the Toms Pauli and Félix Vallotton foundations, alongside temporary exhibits. The design pays homage to the site's industrial heritage, featuring a three-story layout and trapezoidal skylights for illumination.
