Barjeel Art Foundation to Open Permanent Museum in Sharjah in 2028
In early 2028, the Barjeel Art Foundation is set to inaugurate a permanent museum in Sharjah dedicated to modern and contemporary Arab art. The museum, designed by Mohammed Essa and inspired by a concept from founder Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi, will be situated on land donated by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It will include thematic sections highlighting the region's artistic development and two galleries for temporary exhibitions, with a focus on gender-balanced presentations. Curator Rémi Homs emphasizes the museum's significance in safeguarding Arab art history. Since 2010, the collection has traveled, previously displayed at Maraya Art Centre and Sharjah Art Museum. Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi expressed gratitude to the Sharjah government for the land.
