Bari Vecchia Waterfront Gets €75M Makeover with New Sea Museum

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Bari is launching an impressive €75 million urban renewal project along 42 kilometers of its coastline, particularly targeting the Bari Vecchia waterfront. This effort is backed by Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and led by Rtp Smn – Studio di architettura G.L. Sylos Labini and their partners, with Rossi Restauri SRL handling the construction after winning the public contract from the city. The plan includes restoring quays, building permanent piers that will transform into bike paths and walking areas, and upgrading the Sant'Antonio pier next to the new Polo delle Arti, which will offer hospitality and leisure options. A key feature will be the Museo del mare, aimed at enriching Bari’s cultural identity. Mayor Antonio Decaro emphasized that the project aims to reconnect the city with its maritime heritage.
