Barga medieval Tuscan village launches contemporary art project Viaggio
The medieval Tuscan village of Barga, in Garfagnana at the foot of the Apuane Alps, is launching a contemporary art exhibition series titled Viaggio at the Galleria Comunale di Barga. The first edition features artists Aris, Gaia, and Muz, selected by curator Gian Guido Maria Grassi around the theme of travel and its transformative experience. Gaia takes a figurative approach, focusing on stories of local communities; Aris draws profiles of people encountered, creating fluid collective portraits; Muz studies local elements to inspire new architectures. The exhibition includes over thirty works: paintings, ceramics, cyanotypes, canvases by Aris; drawings, sculptures, paintings by Muz, who will also create wall interventions. The project is organized in collaboration with association stART – Open your eyes, known for urban art and territorial regeneration. Future exhibitions include a summer show on music tied to the Barga Jazz Festival, followed by a poetry project titled 'Io sono poesia' dedicated to Pascoli. The series aims to balance the historical-artistic heritage of the ancient borgo with the contemporary art scene, featuring national and international urban artists as well as local collectives.
