Bardo Studio transforms 60m2 Barcelona flat with Catalan vaulted ceiling

architecture-design · 2026-04-29

Madrid-based Bardo Studio has completed its first project in Barcelona, a 60-square-meter apartment in the Gràcia neighborhood. The renovation, named Revoltó, celebrates the traditional Catalan ceramic vaulted ceiling (revoltó) by making it the central design element. After removing original partition walls, the studio exposed the brick vaults and painted them in a contrasting color to draw the eye upward. The semicircular rhythm of the ceiling is echoed in curved furniture, storage units, and a curved glass partition for the bedroom. A freestanding undulating storage piece replaces the hallway, organizing circulation without visual obstacles. The bathroom is a yellow ceramic monochrome box, while the main living areas use birch wood and cream tones. Iconic furniture by Philippe Starck, Javier Mariscal, and Jaime Hayón complements a custom dining table. Photography by Germán Sáiz.
