Barbie Dreamhouse: A Design Masterpiece Blending Mid-Century Modern and Barbiecore

The Barbie Dreamhouse, crafted by Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer for Greta Gerwig's movie, is a nearly life-sized three-story building located at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, close to London. This structure is 23% smaller than an average house, lacking doors and stairs, and features a pink slide connecting its floors to a kidney-shaped swimming pool. The design is inspired by Mattel's classic Dreamhouses, particularly the 1974 Townhouse, as well as California modernist architecture, such as Richard Neutra's 1946 Kauffmann House. The interior combines toy elements with renowned designs, including Eero Saarinen's Tulip Table and Chair, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's RR 126, and Verner Panton's Flowerpot lamp. A 2022 publication, 'Barbie Dreamhouse: An Architectural Survey,' chronicles Barbie's residences from 1962 to 2021.
