Barbican Centre Unveils Ambitious 2025-2030 Program with Ecology, Fashion, and Endangered Languages
The Barbican Centre in London has announced its cultural program for autumn 2025, inaugurating a five-year plan (2025-2030) focused on contemporary creativity and pressing global issues. Highlights include the exhibition 'Dirty Looks: Desire and Decay in Fashion' (25 Sep–25 Jan), featuring Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Maison Margiela, Elena Velez, Yuima Nakazato, and IAMISIGO. A major show juxtaposes Mona Hatoum with Alberto Giacometti (3 Sep–11 Jan), part of 'Encounters: Giacometti'. The Curve gallery hosts Lucy Raven's 'Rounds' (9 Oct–4 Jan), including 'Murderers Bar' and 'Centrifuge'. The festival 'Voiced: The Festival for Endangered Languages' takes place in October 2025. The 'Fragile Earth' concert series starts in March 2026. The Barbican will also host the World Design Congress in September 2025 and a 'Dirty Weekend' conference in November. A 30-meter LED wall at Orion’s Panorama St. Paul is planned for 2027, in collaboration with Orion Capital Managers. The program is led by Director of Arts and Participation Devyani Saltzman, emphasizing ecology, sustainability, cultural memory, and authoritarianism.
