Barbara Kukovec's The Pungk'tum Project Featured on ARTMargins with DIY Photography

exhibition · 2026-04-19

ARTMargins presents new work by Barbara Kukovec from her exhibition The Pungk'tum Project at Access Space in Sheffield during December 2009. Born in Slovenia in 1980, Kukovec maintains dual residences in London and Ljubljana while pursuing a multidisciplinary career. She initially worked as an actor, dancer, and performer across various theater and dance productions. Currently active with the performance art project Via Negativa, her artistic practice has recently expanded into visual arts with a focus on both digital and analogue photography. All images in the series were captured using self-made cameras that employ film or paper treated with photographic emulsion. These works are printed in darkrooms on diverse surfaces. Kukovec's approach emphasizes simplicity and flexibility through a do-it-yourself aesthetic, extending from handmade cameras to digital image construction using open source software tools.
