Baotaz: Wearable Technology Blends Art, Science, and Perception in Milan
The interdisciplinary project Baotaz, born from an interactive lab involving artists, designers, researchers, engineers, physicists, computer scientists, architects, poets, legal scholars, and philosophers, will be presented in Milan from September 3 to 4. The first phase took place in Florence from August 22 to 26 at ISIA as part of La Cura Summer School, addressing questions about interconnectedness, augmented senses, and new sensibilities. The project resulted in a wearable technology designed to align the body with the world, focusing on the concept of inhabiting. The acronym Baotaz refers to people with extraordinary sensitivity and empathy. The project will be experienced at the event "Condividi la conoscenza" within Expogate feat. La Triennale di Milano. Spanish artist Maria Castellanos, with Alberto Valverde, created the Environment Dress Project, a garment with sensors analyzing noise, temperature, atmospheric pressure, ultraviolet radiation, and carbon monoxide. The Collide award, by CERN and FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), was won this year by South Korean Yunchul Kim, with honorable mentions to Mexican Julieta Aranda and British James Bridle. In June, a NASA-supported exhibition in Birmingham explored microorganisms through an artistic lens. The next Baotaz event is on September 30 at the IRCCS Neuromed Technological Park in Pozzilli during the European Researchers' Night, themed "Science is wonder-full."
