Banksy's Bataclan door recovered in Abruzzo, Italy
The security door of the Parisian Bataclan theater, painted by Banksy in June 2018 to commemorate the 90 victims of the November 13, 2015 terrorist attack, has been found in a farmhouse in the Abruzzo countryside. Stolen in January 2019, the door was recovered by Carabinieri from Alba Adriatica (Teramo) following investigations led by the L'Aquila Prosecutor's Office. The artwork depicts a mourning female figure. The theft was carried out by a masked group, captured on surveillance cameras. L'Aquila District Prosecutor Michele Renzo announced the recovery, crediting collaboration with French judiciary and police. Further details are expected at a press conference on June 11. Separately, Banksy posted on Instagram about the toppling of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol on June 7, 2020, during Black Lives Matter protests following George Floyd's death. He proposed replacing it with a monument showing protesters pulling down the statue, accompanied by a sketch.
