Bank of America funds Titian restoration and 17 other conservation projects worldwide
Bank of America's annual art conservation programme is supporting 18 projects in 2026, including the restoration of Titian's 'Bacchus and Ariadne' (1520-23) at the National Gallery in London. The painting will be placed on a new fabric support and undergo paint loss repair, starting next month when construction in the research centre begins. Other major projects include the ongoing conservation of Rembrandt's 'The Night Watch' (1642) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, now entering a phase to remove ageing varnish and overpainting in a public glass chamber. In Paris, 269 cast bronze palms at the Arc de Triomphe will be vacuum dusted and wax-coated, overseen by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. At the Tokyo National Museum, 'Gaki Zōshi' (Scroll of Hungry Ghosts) will be stabilised and colours restored due to risk of total image loss. Additional projects include Henri Matisse's 'La Négresse' (1952) at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, 52 paintings by Francisco Laso de los Ríos at the Museo de Arte de Lima, and Alice Rahon's 'Juggler' (1946) at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Since 2010, the programme has conserved over 15,000 objects in 40 countries. Advisory panel members include Laura Rivers (J. Paul Getty Museum) and Nick Dorman (Seattle Art Museum). BOA declined to disclose the full funding figure.
