Banca Generali Acquires Works by Rosa Barba and Lara Favaretto for Milan Headquarters
Banca Generali has concluded the third edition of BG Art Talent, an acquisition project curated by Vincenzo De Bellis, director of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The initiative, launched in 2018, previously acquired works by Linda Fregni Nagler (2018) and Francesco Arena with Enrico David (2019). The final selection, made in 2020 but delayed due to the pandemic, features Rosa Barba (born 1972 in Agrigento, lives in Berlin) and Lara Favaretto (born 1973 in Treviso, lives in Turin). Their works are now on view at the BG Training & Innovation Hub on Via Achille Mauri in Milan until June 30, 2022, coinciding with Supersalone and Fuorisalone. Barba's Language Infinity Sphere (recording), a 2018 linen print on canvas, was created by moving a sphere that imprinted a random alphabet, forming a new language as a rebellion against digital volatility. Favaretto's Squeezing, a 2014 concrete and iron installation, was made by pressing objects into wet concrete, freezing gestures and emotions. De Bellis noted that historically banks have been powerful drivers for art, and while the three-year partnership concludes, Banca Generali may continue collecting or even open a public exhibition space in Milan, following the model of Gallerie d'Italia but with a distinct focus on contemporary trends.
