Bamboo Pier Transforms Pattani Waterfront into Community Hub

In 2026, HAS design and research finalized the Pattani Fishermen Community Hub, a bamboo pier situated on the Pattani River in southern Thailand. Spanning 148 square meters, the structure is elevated on a steel platform, allowing river currents to flow underneath. Constructed from locally sourced bamboo, it supports aquatic ecosystems. The hub includes openings for visibility, submerged stones for fish shelter, and shaded areas for various activities. It functions as a working pier for fishing vessels and a venue for swimming, community events, and observing marine life. The design reflects Pattani's cultural landscape and involves the Sabarang community, with architects Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee overseeing the project alongside several consultants and builders.
