Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art launches biennial award with £25,000 grants for emerging artists

A new biennial international artist award will be hosted by the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England. Four established artists—Monica Bonvicini, Mike Nelson, Pedro Cabrita Reis, and Lorna Simpson—will each select one early-career or underecognized artist they believe deserves greater attention. Each chosen artist receives £25,000 to produce new work plus a £5,000 fee. The award aims to foster talent and build connections among artists, institutions, and audiences. Selected artists will be announced in early 2017, with their resulting works exhibited at Baltic starting June 30, 2017. The initiative was announced on November 14, 2016.
