Ballarat Beard & Stache Competition Celebrates Community and Facial Hair
The Ballarat Beard & Stache competition, created by Jake Warren and Brayden Dorney, drew participants from across Australia to celebrate community and diversity. Keesy Webster, a 56-year-old driving instructor from Melbourne, returned for his seventh time, flaunting his impressive 101cm beard after winning last year with a 97cm one. Kenny Turnbull, 35, ended up in the moustache section thanks to a surprise entry by his girlfriend. Wizz, 58, a wizard entertainer, dyed his beard at his daughter’s suggestion as it was turning gray. David Jenkin, 67, who grew his beard over four years after leaving a job that prohibited facial hair, placed second in the partial beard category. The event featured six categories, with Neale Postlethwaite winning the full beard 10–20cm category and William Johnson winning the Verdi category for the second consecutive year. It concluded with a group photo.
