Balbusso Twins Debut First New York Exhibition at Society of Illustrators

Identical twin artists Anna and Elena Balbusso, working as The Balbusso Twins, are holding their first New York exhibition, "Balbusso Twins: Illustrating With Two Souls," at the Society of Illustrators. The duo, known for their fluid geometric style and multidisciplinary approach, have been featured in American exhibitions and publications but never before in New York. Their work combines classical and contemporary influences, drawing from Renaissance art, Roman portraiture, and 20th-century avant-gardes. They describe their collaboration as a symbiotic process where they "melt into a single multi-creative identity." The exhibition highlights their illustration work for clients including The New Yorker, The Economist's 1843 magazine, and the Folio Society's deluxe edition of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale," which earned a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators. The Balbusso Twins emphasize beauty as an ethical value, tackling sensitive topics like civil rights, abortion, and violence against women through elegant, complex imagery. Their signature was officially born in 2000, with the latest logo version from 2023. The Society of Illustrators, founded in 1901, hosts the show.
