Backbone Group Exhibition at CARBON 12 Explores Internal and External Structures

The group exhibition 'backbone عمود الفقري' at CARBON 12 in Dubai brings together six artists who investigate risk and interruption across painting, sculpture, video, sound, and textile. The show interrogates the metaphorical and literal meanings of backbone, drawing on the Arabic word 'سند' (support), to explore the complexities and fragilities of internal and external structures. Artists include Nour Malas, whose spontaneous gestures chronicle inner voids; Alia Hamaoui, who distorts architectural structures viewed from a moving car; Malik Thomas Jalil, whose feverish narratives feature soft spectral figures on draped textiles; Kaïs Dhifi, who engraves aluminum to reference ancient knowledge and futuristic technologies; Jana Ghalayini, who introspects traditional weaving to create presence; and Audrey Large and Théophile Blandet, who challenge the reliability of vision through objects. The exhibition runs at CARBON 12 in 2024.
