Back to Nature Brings Contemporary Art to Rome's Villa Borghese

From September 15 to December 13, 2020, the Villa Borghese park in Rome hosts 'Back to Nature. Arte Contemporanea a Villa Borghese,' an exhibition curated by art historian and critic Costantino D'Orazio. The show features installations by Andreco, Mario Merz, Mimmo Paladino, Benedetto Pietromarchi, Davide Rivalta, Grazia Toderi, Edoardo Tresoldi, and Nico Vascellari, who presents a new film. Works are placed in areas including the Parco dei Daini and Piazza di Siena, engaging with the park's museums such as the Museo Carlo Bilotti and Museo Pietro Canonica. The transparent installations aim to create harmony between art and nature, reflecting on climate change and the global health emergency. Highlights include Merz's double igloo, Paladino's ten flags paraded by the Sbandieratori di Cori on October 12, Tresoldi's transparent sculpture Etherea, and Rivalta's bronze buffalo. The exhibition is part of Romarama, a program promoted by Roma Capitale. D'Orazio emphasizes that the works are not mere outdoor sculptures but tools for performance and public engagement, designed to be accessible even to those unfamiliar with contemporary art. Additional projects include Accademia Aracne's embroidered trees and the Wing Project by students of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma.
