Bachelot Caron's 'Le Bruit du monde' Blurs Reality and Fiction at Paris Photo 2012

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Louis Bachelot and Marjolaine Caron, a French photographic duo, created 'Le Bruit du monde' (2010), a tableau photographique that juxtaposes a serene interior with external chaos. The image, set in a comfortable Parisian suburb, features three boys posing before school, with a ghostly figure of Charlotte, grandmother of Marjolaine and wife of photojournalist Gilles Caron (1939-1970), who disappeared in Cambodia on April 5, 1970. Outside, elements reference the September 11 attacks, financial crisis, and post-Madoff era. The work is constructed through collage and finalized in Photoshop. Bachelot and Caron have collaborated with Détective, The New Yorker, and Libération. Their exhibition 'Délits d’initiés – Inside Job' at Passage de Retz in Paris earlier in 2012 featured this piece. They plan larger formats and video. Upcoming shows include Institut français in Berlin (May 11–July 31, 2012) and Cologne (October 10–November 30, 2012), and Maison européenne de la photographie in Paris (2014).
