Babylonia Residence by FMD Architects in Melbourne

The Babylonia Residence, designed by FMD Architects and led by principal architect Fiona Dunin, is a 928-square-meter house located in northeast Melbourne, Australia. The project, curated by Miwa Negoro, is slated for completion in 2026. The design responds directly to the sloping terrain, drawing inspiration from the property's elevated rear garden, which parallels the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Two mature eucalyptus trees anchor the front of the site, their canopies drawing the eye upward as the house integrates voluminous, cavernous spaces within the stratified land. The interior design was also handled by FMD Architects, while Eckersley Garden Architecture oversaw the garden and landscaping.
