Baby Named After David Attenborough Born on His 100th Birthday
Ambrose Attenborough Whyte arrived at a hospital in Powys, Wales, at 23:58 BST on 8 May, weighing 7lb 5oz. His parents, Stephen Whyte (35) and Lauren Evans (27), chose his name to pay tribute to Sir David Attenborough on the occasion of the broadcaster and environmentalist's 100th birthday. Initially, they intended to induce labor on 7 May, but as labor began, Evans wished for the baby to be born on Attenborough's special day. They spontaneously decided to include Attenborough as a middle name. Whyte expressed that Attenborough's documentaries inspired their passion for animals, hoping their son would be similarly motivated. The medical staff acknowledged their request, saying, 'We'll see what we can do.' Attenborough began his BBC career in 1952 and later became the controller of BBC Two.
