B.U.M. – Bruzzano Urban Market opens in Milan as a sustainable urban regeneration project

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

On September 11, 2021, B.U.M. – Bruzzano Urban Market will open in Milan's Via Senigallia area near Parco Nord. The market is the result of a workshop led by architect Michele De Lucchi and his studio AMDL CIRCLE, held remotely from October to December 2020 with 15 students from YACademy, a Bologna-based architecture school. The workshop focused on designing an urban market as a social and sharing space. From four proposals, the winning design by Giulia Lodetti, David Villegas, and Paride Zambelli features hexagonal modular structures that are scalable, movable, and low-impact. The modules are made from wood salvaged from the 2018 Vaia storm that hit the Dolomites. The market is part of InOltre. Sharing the city, a peripheral regeneration project promoted by the Unipol Group through its Urban Up initiative. InOltre began with scientific research coordinated by the University of Pavia and continued with design workshops by YACademy. Giuseppe Lobalsamo, Real Estate Director of Unipol, stated that the regeneration of Bruzzano is a key focus, with a 135,000 sqm multifunctional masterplan underway. B.U.M. will host local agricultural and food excellence every Saturday from 2 to 6 PM until November 27, including Verbionatura, Gusci e Germogli, Cascina dell'Azienda Agricola La Santella, Cibus, Birrificio Rhodense, Apicoltura San Martino, Attilio Schiaffonati, I Fiori di Hortives, Il caprino di Soncino, Cascina Zappello, Renato Fontana, and I pirati della Piada.
