Axel Wieder to Lead Berlin Biennale Starting August 2024

Axel Wieder, currently director of Bergen Kunsthall, has been appointed director of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, effective 1 August 2024. He will oversee operations for the 13th edition in 2025, curated by Zasha Colah. Wieder succeeds Gabriele Horn, who led the biennial since 2002. In a statement, Wieder emphasized the Biennale's role as an experimental platform and his intention to deepen its engagement with Berlin's urban society and redefine its relationship to the city as an art hub.
