Axel Vervoordt concludes Venice exhibition cycle with 'Intuition' at Palazzo Fortuny

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Axel Vervoordt, the Belgian collector and interior designer, reflects on his six-exhibition cycle at Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, culminating with 'Intuition' in 2017. The series, produced with director Daniela Ferretti and the Civic Museums of Venice, began with 'Artempo' in 2007 and included 'Infinitum' (2009), 'Tra' (2011), and 'Proportio' (2015). Each show was developed by interdisciplinary expert groups of scientists, philosophers, mathematicians, architects, and musicians. Vervoordt states that 'Intuition' is the final chapter of the series held in conjunction with the Venice Biennale since 2007. He notes that while his love for Palazzo Fortuny and Venice remains, he believes it is time for others to use the space during the Biennale. Looking ahead, Vervoordt is focusing on the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation's new home at Kanaal, near Antwerp, with architecture completed by end of 2017 and a grand opening scheduled for November 30. The Kanaal project includes 98 apartments and lofts, a bakery by Poilâne, a grocery store by CRU, a restaurant, wellness center, medical office, and the Axel Vervoordt Gallery, which opened in March 2017. The architecture team includes Stéphane Beel, Bogdan & Van Broeck, Coussee & Goris, and landscape architect Michel Desvigne. Vervoordt advises young collectors to follow intuition, study deeply, consult experts, and seek art that is positive and universal, bridging ancient and contemporary.
